Now all we have to do is decide what the requirements should be.
Should the developer decide?
Should it run on fx cards and above?
Should it run on Gforce 4 cards and above?
Should it run on things lower then Gforce4s?

It looks like the consensus is that the developer decides on what cards their demo sould run on; Nehe is probably going to be making the final decision as to who the winner is going to be so it would be best to get the specs of the system he is running.

Note: If you want to use a top of the line card, you should record a screen cap of your demo in action and submit it along with your demo.
Before we go on I think we need two things:

- a name for the contest
- a list of things left to discuss; If you feel that there is anything you've felt has not been adaquately covered, now is your time to speak up.

A game just won't work. It takes far too long, i've been working on a game for 14 months and were not done yet. A demo is a realistic goal that every one can do.

One point for ya.
Does anyone remember the 4E3 Contest ? Wonderful ideas, terrific results. Just went too optimistic.

So most people want to a city theme.

It seems so. If you have a better one, please propose. However we already took much time to agree on a common theme, so I hope any new idea will be faster to decide ^^'

I'm pretty sure NeHe won't enforce anyone targetting very high or very low graphics cards. Just make sure many people can run your demo. I think it's much more interesting when you can handle to run the demo on as many cards as possible. At least that's m2c.

EDIT: Oh and how long should it be?

It's still open, but from what I've read it would be between 2 and 4 months, if that's what you're talking about.
If you're talking about the length of the demo (ie how long does the demo run from start to end without repeat) I think it's up to the entrant to do what he want/can/must do.
I've been playing city of heroes and I'm a bit tired of the city theme.

However, I am still interested in the post nuclear / apocalypse idea. To me the apocalypse has always looked more like the future of the movie "Time Machine". In the distance future when man reverts back to cave men and open fields of vegatation.

Then again, really the apocalypse in real life would be something like our sun going supernova and cooking everybody in hot molten soup as gravity pulls our planet into the sun and our molecules blend back into star dust.

'Demo Remake Demo' : You have recreate one of your own (or someone elses) demo that was released in previous contest. Of course you have to improve it. I know everyone has learned alot form last contest so new demos will be much better. You can add better high-res textures, add bumpmapping, parallax mapping, shadow, glares, postprocessing, sounds, better music... anything as long demo stays the same. Any comments?

In other news. I'm back after 2 weeks. I've been to Greece on 'absolvent'. Best. Time. Ever. Party non stop. I've been sleeping something like 2 hours/day and partying the rest :)... Personal life also took some unexpected turns... all on good side... life is nice!
You should never let your fears become the boundaries of your dreams.

I don't know if we should let you resubmit one of your own demos. The last few were pretty good. I'd like to see new content vs. a rehash though.

Glad you're back, and even more glad you're happy Mirko.

As for the remake contest, I think it would probably looks like everyone remakes the best entry (and for this to work, all source code need to be submitted) and/or only the best entrants will be able to improve it very well. In other words, I think it's an unfair rule. Sorry to say that.

Welcome back! The sad part about a demo remake demo, is that people who haven't entered any demo to begin with have no opportunity to do a remake. Otherwise, I think it's a great idea. The demos would probably be of quite good quality.
Perhaps, we could encourage people with feedback after this contest, and maybe they would remake or add to their demos then?
I don't think he meant it had to be one you previously entered, but I do think it's a bad idea. There's basically no substantial creativity there.

I can see the fnords.
This is a democracy. Can you provide a list of themes so that
Nehe/Lover can post a voting page?
