as i am working on my current game project, an interesting problem occured to me. I am working on a survival/horror game which takes place inside a high school. It would also fall somewhat into the RPG realm, so I am curious... What sort of weapons would someone find in a school? I have a list of my own, but i could use more and i am curious to see if anyone else is as crazy as to come up with some that i did :D much thanks, in advance.

A sharp lead pencil? One of those metal rulers? I'm sure you could find many useful implements in the technical arts building...

Just make sure you don't get sued by one of those soccer moms. [wink]
How about these:

1. A fire extinguisher.
2. An axe.
3. A handgun (it could be stashed in some crazy kids locker)
4. A really heavy book (you could drop it on people)
5. Paper weights (very heavy, and teachers practicaly horde them)

I hope that helps and good luck with your game.
A trip to the Chemistry labs will result in Chemicals and explosives.
work shop class there are heaps
chisel
saw
power tools
cross bow a crazy kid made as a project
drill
nail gun

In my high school there was a hunting class, there was a rifle and a shotgun there, but they were constantly supervised and there was no ammunition. Although in a sudden Zombie (or whatever your game is survival/horror wise) emergency that supervision might disappear. Oddly enough I was working on a Zombies-in-our-School game a while ago (I've since stopped work on it), and my solution for the first gun was to have a cop stop to investigate, and get killed, conveniently dropping his pistol for you to pick up.

You could go into the science lab and find a disection kit and have "throwing knives" as well as "poisoned pins" which you could conviniently shoot with a rubberband you find in there (fermaldahide is poisonous, no?)...

just an idea...

...though i do not believe in what you are saying, I will defend your right to say it to my death!(no source sited)
woah, i'm actually getting feedback :D

hm... these are similar to a lot i'm coming up with. That's good. This game will make a dark reality out of an already dark situation...

-There will be pocket knives, maybe even a switchblade or scalpel.

-Sports equipment, such as javelins, baseball bats, long bows, or shotputs.

-The player's own two fists, for quite some time.

-Exacto knives from industrial tech room... As well as drills and staple gun.

-metal rulers

-from the janitor's closet, a wrench or crowbar, maybe a mop.

-molotov's, from the chemistry lab, provided you have someone in your party that can make them

guns are an interesting topic to cover... there will be one handgun. I dunno about other schools, but we have a police officer hired to keep permanent watch over the school.. his handgun would be the only one i'd allow. And you'd probably have to kill his apparition to get it.

Again, thanks for the feedback. If there's anything else that you guys can think of, I'll be sure to consider it. All items must be available in a school setting, as well. I do not want to take the "oh, some crazy kid made it" approach. Just seems a little cheap to me.

EDIT: Plus fire extinguisher and axe. I've already incorporated most of these suggestions into this list.

My school had a permanent police officer stationed there. (overkill really, I went to a "good" school). But if he fell victim to whatever evil is in your game, that's a pistol, baton, and pepper spray all in one.

The workshop tools and lab chemicals are a great idea. Also from the lab could be a bunsen burner. From a HomeEc class, you can get the knives used in cooking. From the gym...baseball bats (and baseballs themselves, if you have a good arm). Also, from the janitor's closet, you could take a mop and splinter off the end to get a sharp point. Oh, and a biology class will have scalpels for dissection.

And if you want to take an idea from "The Faculty", you can rip the handle with blade off of a paper cutter.

EDIT...you posted while I wrote. Hence some redundancy.
