Try it again now... remember that if you are going to download then you need to insert the address of the document in your Address bar... For some reason, crosswinds is not allowing you to do any better than that... I am searching for an alternative site now. Any ideas? (if the page loads from the link above then the site is up...)

Thanks for informing me of the crash tho

hmm. imagine what sort game it would be if you included every one of these ideas eh. that wouldnt be an rpg, it would be too insane to even play.

I am not text, I am not organized pixels, I am not killed by turning off your monitor, I am not isolated by turning off your computer. I just am.

That is why you would never intend to introduce them all. If you did then you would probably go insane trying to code it... I think that it is just there for inspiration anyway.

Well, as soon as DDraw stops telling me that my f***ing lpddsprimary is in use 100% of the time, I think I will have a decent start on my [ex-]RPG[-like]. But until that happens, more coding and debugging and updating of the doc...

MKV
I was just checking up on Goblin and I decided to check out your SourceForge account.... THANKYOU.... I know you said you were going to but I didn''t notice until today... Hopefully there will be many more people who read it once they hear of your work

I still can''t believe that you haven''t realised that I am making a game. It has its conception work listed at the end of the doc under "The Learning Experience"... Didn''t you read that?

Hi. I read the document (eventually).
I have a suggestion/comment re the use of Gold in RPGs. Most fantasy based games are based in a quasi-medieval world. But in the real, European middle ages, silver was the prime currency.

There was an article on this in Dragon magazine about 20 years ago (!), reprinted in "Best of Dragon Vol 1". It went on quite well about the use of silver, and coin sizes etc. Silver coins were very small, copper used for lesser currency. Gold was for national level transactions (ie by royalty) -- very rare, very hard to find. Most peasants wouldn''t see a penny in a year (barter economy, feudalism so they ate the leftovers after their lords did) let alone a gold coin. So where are the monsters getting gold from??? Gold nuggets perhaps?

Bart the Undeadslayer picks up his shovel and goes prospecting so he can buy a new suit of armor

The barter economy brings to mind other issues. Trading with NPCs typically takes place with gold. Bartering would be more accurate (could use some sort of weighting for the different items, plus a random factor).

That''s an interesting point, Marty. A bartering system could be quite intersting. Then if the player does happen upon a gold piece it would be very valuable.
