3DS MAX Back Facing Polys Make Me Sad

Hey, I just got a copy of 3D Studio Max and boy is it a powerful tool. It has a steep learning curve, though, and I''m having trouble getting it to do what I want. Basically I''m writing a space game and I''ve been downloading 3DS model files of space ships of the internet. When I import some of these models, they are missing half of their polygons, presumably because the back-facing ones are not being drawn by 3DS Max. This is a little inconvient. More inconvient is the fact that the Panda DirectX X file exporter won''t export these polys to a .X file. So I need to know how to fix a model and make all the polys face out. It looks like the winding order on the vertices are wrong. Is there a quick fix to this? I imagine it must be a common problem. Does anyone know of a good 3DS Max tutorial site that talks about issues like these - by which I mean things that a game programmer would come up against in the basic course of gathering 3d models for a game? Thanks for any input! ---------------------------------------- Let be be finale of seem, seems to me. ---------------------------------------- Coding: http://www.stanford.edu/~jjshed/coding Miscellany: http://www.stanford.edu/~jjshed

Though I sang in my chains like the sea...

I tried posting earlier but kept getting an error?!?!?!
Anyway, here''s the easiest way I have found to do it:

1) Right click the object you want the faces flipped on
2) Select "Convert To Editable Mesh"
3) Right underneath the "Selection" bar push the button that looks like a red triangle. (Not the one that looks like an outline of a red triangle)
4) Click the mouse and drag it (Should see a little dashed box) and select the whole object.
5) After you select the whole object, right click on it agian
6) Select "Normals->Flip Selected"

And viola, the faces are now reversed like you wanted.
Have fun and enjoy,

Just so you don''t get lost:
After you convert the object to an "Editable Mesh," you should see the "Selection" bar on the right side of the program. It''s in the "Modify" tab if you don''t see it. I think it will automatically put you there though. (It''s right underneath the "Sub-Object" button)

Enjoy

You should work in Editable Poly mode. More versitile.
