there are some shaders around that draws a black outline around your sprite. combine it with a flat shader,and you should be able to create even cartoony stuff...
as told, pixeling it all will be a pain

Making multiframed 2D characters?
Use the 3D render as a BASE for you to draw on.
Just render a dummy model without too much details and then draw what you really want on top. That way you would have some of the work cut out for you by the renderer but the final style would be handdrawn. (In photoshop, you would put the 3D rendered graphic on a layer and draw on top of that on another layer.)
