Space Invaders brainstorming.

Have 13 enemies on the screen. At any given moment, two of these are suicidal kamikazes.

At every interval of 5 seconds, if there are less than 13 enemies, generate 1 new enemy on levels 1-10, 2 enemies on levels 11-20, 3 enemies on levels 21-30, and 5 enemies on levels 31-50.

At every interval of 8 seconds, the first kamikaze enemy will go insane, charge after the player, and blow up after 2 seconds or upon contact with the player. A new enemy is now marked as kamikaze. The same process is repeated for the second kamikaze at every interval of 8.5 seconds, just enough time after the first one.

The rest is the same. Repeat till the game is over.

I was wathcing "28 Days Later" last night and another lightbulb went on...

Backdrop is image of streets, parks, etc slowly scrolling upwards.

Middle of screen: A jeep that moves left and right or you can "change speed" which actually changes the backdrop scroll rate.

Bottom of screen: Civilians are running downward at variable speeds. Elderly, overweight, sick, etc moving slower than others.

Top of screen: Rage zombies are running downward at a speed as fast as the slowest civilians. Their speed slowly increases over time. There are infinite zombies coming from above the top of the screen in waves.

Object: Follow the civilians and score points for killing zombies that chase them. Eventually the zombies will be coming down too fast for you to deal with them so that you will have to speed up and sacrifice some civilians. You lose points if you shoot a civilian. If the zombie overtakes a civilian, then they will gather and feast, allowing you to slow down and pick them off for a little while, but fresh zombies continue to pour from the top, ignoring the feast, so you had better get moving soon.

Extra points for crossing checkpoints.
Pick up ammo/bombs/etc as you go by running over them.

Since the zombie speed constantly increases, your jeep will be overrun and game over, so the point is to get a higher score.

lol. Sounds like a decent game, actually. Probably better suited to Flash, or like ilk.

And Sandman''s idea is quite cool, too, IMHO. And probably his, as well.
