Mmmh sorry Sandman, but you are mistaken there. They released GTA for FREE, that''s all. You can download the whole game on their website, only 600 megs or so. But I must say after playing Vice City, well, let''s just say some things are best left in the past

I''d make a game where the player was Osama bin Ladin and every person in the streets was out to kill you. Youd see how long you could survive and have objectives like, blow up some bridge or something. That would be fun.
I would use it to make a game where you are a police officer in trouble spots in the world. You would travel from several crime hotspots engaging in car chases, hostage situations, giant battles, etc. It would be almost like playing GTA on the law''s side.

I haven''t heard of a GTA source code release. All I could find was this:
"Matt posted an editorial on the free versions of GTA and Hidden & Dangerous, petitioning Take2/Rockstar to release the source code. I''m not sure if it will ever happen, but the article is definitely worth a read. Give it a read over at Curmudgeon Gamer."

And here is the article the news linked to: http://curmudgeongamer.com/article.php?story=20031014105646185
A Batman game made with the GTA engine would totally rock.. Some area of the "Gotham City" (dark athmosphere, lots of steam, ugly statues, tall buildings) would''ve been modelled, where you''d be fighting against super-criminals and their lackeys.
Yeah, I know. Flashback was great, and to build a whole world (or worlds, if you include the spaceport) in that vein would be totally sweet. Hovercars, fancy guns, aliens/police/rebels/mutants/you factions, midnight rendezvous, memory recovery... God, that game was cool. Pretty it up a little, and it would be even better.
