Blender: How to subdivide a face in two?
Hello.
When I select the 4 vertices of a face and I press the subdivide button the face gets subdivided in 4. Is there a way to subdivide over an axis or something so I end up with 2?
ie:
[size="2"]I like the Walrus best.
Method one:
Scale it down on the axis and select the two vertices on the right. Then extrude those two vertices out.
Method two:
Select all four vertices and hit ''X'', ''Only Faces''. You can then Subdivide the top edge and the bottom edge. Select the two left edge vertices and the new middle vertices and hit ''F'' to make a new face. Clear the selected vertices and select the right two and the middle two and hit ''F''.

There is another way. Select all the vertices for the face, then click on the ''Beauty'' option in the edit menu. Then subdivide.
Thanks Wolfmanyoda!
yspotua: Hey, this is cool. It subdivides the face horizontally. How do I do to subdivide it vertically? Maybe it is obviously easy but I'm kinda new to this...
EDIT: Heh, one way to achieve it is rotating the view

I don't how you could specify the vertical subdivsion. You may have to do it manually by subdividing each edge and then creating an edge from 2 new vertices.
Try the Blender knowledge base at http://www.vrotvrot.com/support/browse.php. If can't find it there, then try the forums at www.elysuin.com, there are a lot more experience Blender users there.

I go to the library and check out 3D modeling books. It can be books about 3DMax, Maya, Lightwave, AutoCAD, whatever. Almost all of them come with a CD of tutorials, sample files, and a bunch of textures. I can''t use the other stuff, but my texture collection has become really large and well stocked by doing this.
You may want to google for the Blender Manual 2.0 in PDF download or something. It's free for download now, which used to cost 10 bucks. It's a really well written manual, covering most, if not all, of Blender's wonderful features.
Download Blender 2.27 if you already haven't, it's a bit more stable than 2.26. They still don't have the game engine back in it, which was pretty cool from what I've seen, but honestly I could care less.
Elysiun - go to the Forums section of this site to see some great some from some Blenderheads. WIP section or Finished projects section is where I'll be posting whenever I learn more. You can even learn about Python scripting from the Python forum, or get a list of tutorials on the Help forum, etc... It's all good.
Hope that helped a bit.
EIDT - Here's a direct link to the PDF download (free of charge) - Clicky.
EDIT - Oh, and if you want the Gzip version of that just add .gz instead of .zip to the end of the URL.
