I was not getting worked up, I was simply telling you that I did not appreciated what you were saying. And in what way was I being immature about discussing anything?
I realize that there are many games out there that have graphics AND gameplay that far surpass what I am currently working on, I know, because I am a player of most of them, and my answer is that I cannot compete with them. But does that mean that I deserve to be called a wanker, or have my current project critisized? It''s especially upsetting, when someone critisizes it, yet they know nothing about it.
I''m sorry if you think I got worked up over it, but you weren''t just trying to discuss the condition of the gaming market, you were critisizing something you don''t know about. And that''s what slightly upset me.

I am also relatively new to the game development industry, I do learn fast however, I started on programming small things about a year ago, but have created games of all types all my life.

If you WOULD like to have a civil discussion of the GAME INDUSTRY, that would be great, and I would be very interested in talking to a fellow game player/developer about it. But from now on, if we are going to have critisizm, lets have it be consructive, eh?

I''m sorry if anything in my previous post upset you, and I''m most definately sorry that you think I got worked up over it...but from now on, lets actually talk as 2 people willing to exchange ideas and opinions, not 2 people becoming enemies without even knowing each other....

Thank you,

Not going to take sides here, but lets save any industry and design discusion for the Game Design or Lounge forums. Sorry I can''t offer my services to you at the moment, I have several other projects I''m currently working on, but best of luck to you in completing your game.

Agreed...

My original question wasn't a criticism. it was just a question...the fact that you are working on a text based game that you genuinely believe may sell sparked my interest. I'd really like to see it happen (not being sarcastic here).

my impression of the industry was that people had just gone crazy over graphics...i thought maybe you'd shead some light on the niche i obviously know little to nothing about.

I'm sorry if i came accross the wrong way. it was not criticism, i just wanted to pry more info for interest's sake. if you can't release any then that's fair enough. criticism can only take place with full knowledge of the subject, so that wasn't my intention.

i just never see a text games on any gaming sites except the ones created by nostalgic enthusiests, and i thought they were strictly a thing of the past in the commercial world.

i suppose if you put yourself in the right frame of mind it would give you the ultimate freedom to role play...and could have huge potential for that reason, but it just surprised me all the same.

i genuinely wish you well...as i did in my other posts.

First of all onfu and techno, thank you for your kind words, that is what we like to hear.

And onfu, your impression of the industry is right on. People will fo for graphics before anything else. And that is becaue, like you said, they won''t use their imagination....
I DO genuinely think that the game will sell....for far more reasons than I have listed in this thread. But you understand why I will not list all of its unique features I''m sure.

And what you said about the text based games on websites and such is absolutely correct. But those you see how much graphics, none....because its TEXT-BASED, correct.

But I''m not even sure that my game can be listed in the text genre. It is a whole new genre , that I''ve never seen before, which is why I like it, and am enthusiastic in it. I have had different ideas regarding in since I was quite young, and they have developed since then obviously.

I am in the process of choosing a web host to use for my website, and it will be up soon hopefully.
There you will be able to find what information I am able to deliver, and make sure you check back often when it is up, for other RPG resources, updates on its progress, and new information as it is released throughout the project.

If you have questions about it go ahead and ask, though all of them may not be answered....

I''m not expecting to sell 50,000 copies of this game, but I DO expect to make some money.

Thank you,

I wouldn't bother trying to recruit here. Most of the people at GameDev just want to work in the main stream games industry so their minds are closed for the most part.

You will find more relevant information (for your type of game) at a shareware oriented website. Try www.dexterity.com.

As for getting an artist I would advise that you to learn to do the artwork yourself. It will take you longer to finish your game but you won't have to rely on flakes. I tried for years to get an artist and when I finally got one they didn't do any work. So I learned to do the art myself and so far it has taken me 6 weeks to learn the package and get half of the maps done for my game.

There are many free resources on the net (models, textures and programs) so I suggest that you try and make use of them.

Here''s a thought Vilhelm, you don''t seem to be getting many reply posts from interested artists, but that doesnt mean there arnt any here looking for a contract position who want to break into the industry and build up a portfolio. What that means is they are sometimes willing to do it just to be in the credits. Especially if the artwork you need is static images. I''d suggest either looking back through old thread topics and keeping an eye out for new threads from people who are posting here their first model and pictures. If there work or style looks like it will fit then you can take the initiative to contact them to see if they are interested in doing a few small pieces at least. Pictures of items can be easily made in their spare time. Also keep an eye in the Help Wanted forum here, I think you may be able to turn up artists through there too.

Vilhelm, you do seem to get mad when people talk down on your game. Even if they don''t know anything about it. But this is what gamers do. If we see a text-based on the shelf, we will laugh, and go to the 3D shoot-em-up game. It''s just what happens. Are you going to write a letter to a gamer magazine when/if they start ripping on your game, telling them "I''d like to see you make a better game that blahblah". Come on man. You have to let that motivate you, not get to you.
