GeForce2 and Athlon Processors

I realize this doesn''t have anything to do with programming, but I figured you guys would know this. I have a p2 450 and currently built an athlon 600. I got a GeForce2 and put it in my athlon 600. In quake 2, i hardly get 60 frames per second. I decided to put it in my p2, and i got (at one point) 400 fps. I know the average is about 250 or so, but still thats WAY over what the athlon got. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Please. Also in 3D games, it tends to either freeze or mess up, for instance in quake 3 it will start spinning your guy everywhere. Its weird, and in q2 it will freeze. Heh any help is appreciated, thanks. AcidJazz
Why is 99% of the Comp Sci population guys, and the other 1% not female? ;/
Which MoBo are you using for your Athlon?
And you DID download NVidia''s specific athlon drivers didn''t you .

400 fps!?!? A game''s frame rate can''t go beyond the max refresh rate of the card. Is the geforce capable of this high a refresh? I''ve heard a lot of programs need a patch to work with an athelon. If that''s the case thats going to be a pain waiting for and finding a patch for every program or game(especially if your like me). I was considering a athelon too, but wasn''t sure which programs would run so can''t take the risk of it being a driver nightmare. If anyone with an athelon wants to say what percentage of programs work without a patch I would find that interesting.
No, programs do NOT need a patch to work with an Athlon. In fact, the Athlon performance of the GeForce256 is the reference, but you need the RIGHT driver. Most GeForce's don't ship with the Athlon drivers.

Another point is the Motherboard you're using. The old AMD750-based MoBo's do not support AGP very well, in fact, the Asus K7M was only stable at AGPx1. The newer KX133 based ones support AGPx4 very well.

Good places to look for info:
AMD Zone
AMD themselves
NVidia's latest drivers.

I think their new Detonator set includes the Athlon-specific drivers.

Lo

My brother had the exact same problem, he built an athlon 750, with a GeForce Pro, and he was getting really bad frames with quake 3, like the same as my cele 400, voodoo 3, until he updated the geforce drivers and his motherboard drivers and now he gets kick ass frames.

Make sure you get the most upto date drivers though.
