how do ppl like the idea of a 2d online rpg, based on the rules of deathmatch and capture the flag? top-down view though. would this be any good?
i think that is almost a paradox.

rpg - deathmatch?

so what...you build your character up through the game then you challenge ppl to deathmatches? or the game is a constant deathmatch?

I think that a game that fell somewhere between RPG and RTS would potentially be really interesting. The difficulty as I see it would be to find a balance between RPG characters who live for ages and develop with time against RTS characters who are essentially temporary and expendable. Some form of non-lethal combat could make this all plausible. Or simply abandon the character development side of the RPG stuff and instead focus on the differences between character classes.

An RPG implies that some characters will be way more developed and powerful than others, while deathmatch implies that all players will just slug it out. It doesn't sound like much fun if some players will always win just because their characters are so much stronger. Do you have a solution to this problem in mind?
