What''s the difference between the two, and which one would be better for game applications? Thanks.
One is newer than the other, but i forget which one.

There is no ''better'' or ''best'' software for game models.
They are all just tools, and whatever one you (or your artist) is most comfortable with using is the one to use.

No one has yet made a modeling software that is able to make up for lack of skills and know-how. They all take practice.

I understand that there is no "better" or "best" 3D program for making games, but between the two, which does better animation, lighting, etc.? That''s what was meant by "game applications."
XSI is a newer more feature rich version, but either one can be used for games.

But if you are condering BUYING either one, I''m sure the sales rep from Softimage could have explained the differences.

You almost need a few hours of professional traning to use XSI to its fullest, but like I said, I''m sure the sales rep would have told you this.

XSI is newer and far more expensive than 3D. Obviously it has far more features as well, but for gaming needs Softimage3D should be fine. After all game like Virtua Fighter 1-4 and Wipeout are made using 3D.

IMO XSI is bloated, go with 3D.
