Anyone have Logic Platinum 5?
I was looking at this site:
http://www.emagic.de/english/products/logic/lap2.html#se
and cant figure out if there is a windows version of it. The requirements clearly state that you need a Mac, but uinder product updates there is a windows patch.
So i guess I have two questions, if you have used it before, how good is it?
and
Is it for windows?
Logic 5 was the last version for PC. From now on it will only be on Mac.
Check out Cubase SX:

Logic was very good. Whilst it always lagged behind Cubase technology-wise ( at least on the PC ), the interface was incredibly quick, efficient and flexible when you get used to it. Last version I tried was 4.7; The death of the PC version, combined with really quite poor ReWire compatibility forced me to switch back to Cubase. SX seems really nice, and whilst I miss some Logic features, seamless Reason integration more than makes up for it. Logic was certainly a more exciting prospect about two years ago than it is now, but is still a great program.
Overall, how does Cubase and Logic compare with Reason? I have Reason and Reason 2 alerady which I like alot, would you reccomend buying another?
Hard to compare a sequencer with Reason; although Reason does have a sequencer, it is very poor by modern standards. It may be useful for quickly prototyping ideas, but for anything more serious I''d recommend a more featured application. Combining Reason with Cubase overcomes what I consider the main limitations of Reason: crap sequencer, and inability to use VST plugins/instruments. In this scenario, Reason is used as an Uber-virtual instrument, hosted by the sequencer.
If I remember right, Logic 5 Platinum has a Windows version out there.
To Colin Barry: I''m sorry but I feel that I am bit confused about your talkin that Logic is always bit behind of Cubase. I assume that you use (''''new'''' windows version of Logic) Because as long as I''ve used Logic (5+ years) I''ve never felt that it''s behind a Cubase, actually Logic has been always in the front of the cutting edge technologies of audio production. The logic is compatible with Pro Tools and TDM, Kyma, and so on... How''s with Cubase then? It''s still wanking with those clumbsy MIDI stuff. Still so incorrect when it comes to vocal edit.
VST plug-ins are the only good thing what can be related to Cubase, all other stuff is from the stone age.

I haven't used the most recent version of Logic. After 4.7, a brief demonstration from a friend of the benefits of SX, and I switched. Maybe if I knew that there was going to be future development of Logic for Windows then I would have been tempted to stay.
ProTools on Windows is horrific, and Windows Kyma non existant. The technologies that I actually use: VST, VSTi, ReWire - all these have come to Logic generations after being included in Cubase, and even then support is often ropy. I've seen MANY VST plugins claiming 'doesn't work correctly' under Logic. Furthermore, up until a few years ago, Logic strictly used a one-button interface. Mac users may have liked it, but I didn't!

interresting thread..
About Logic and Cubase.. i started a couple of years ago playing around with Cubase Score in school.. i heard it was the best stuff and so on. Later a friend of mine convinced me that Logic is cool too.. so i bought Logic Audio Silver.. and even if it was the small version of Logic i liked it alot more than Cubase. The sequencers got similar spec''s.. but they are different. I think Logic is alot faster to work with even at that time when i knew Cubase alot better than Logic. Logic is not as easy to use in the beginning as Cubase is.. but who cares.. if you buy a sequencer you probably read the manual and learn how to use it pretty quick anyway. When Apple bought emagic i crossgraded to Cubase SX (i used a PC). My first impressions of it was GREAT! They had "stolen" some nice features from Logic.. unfortunatly Cubase SX just didn''t want to cooperate all the time.. i''ve never had so much problems in my homestudio as when i had Cubase SX. Instead i bought a nice mac + some digidesign hardware.. now i run pro tools (no other sequencer) and everything works better than ever before
Ohyeah.. and now i got 2 pc''s for sale . My goal right now is to get a new job so i can afford to upgrade my pro tools-stuff and get logic to use as a sequencer. I''ve not thought through this so carefully yet.. but something like that anyway.
VST and ReWire on Cubase vs. Logic:
First of all.. Logic had their own "VST" that i like alot more which Cubase STILL hasn''t got any support for.. unfortunatly not so many developers use this (expensive to get a dev license for it? only for emagic? someone who knows?). Steinberg made VST.. ofcoz they where quicker to implement it than emagic. ReWire was developed by propellerheads who at that time had a very close biz-contact with Steinberg (i''m not a 100% sure on this.. only 90% ). As you might remember.. ReBirth and ReCycle was sold through Steinberg. Not so strange if they where faster on that tech either then. That''s not how it is today. Now Apple owns emagic who makes Logic. I''m almost sure that emagic get alot of help by Apple and Apple by emagic to develop around the whole Audio Units-thing. VST is next to dead on OSX. Who knows.. will this change? I hope not.. throw away the old crap and start develop for the new and better! (Go Emagic ). This is great stuff.. atleast in short terms.. i don''t like the whole scenario we got here in long terms.. but let''s not go there right now.
Misc about VST.. i hope this interface will die out soon so the good developers can concentrate on better things (Audio Units for example). The reason for why propellerheads doesn''t support VST is that VST isn''t enough for them. They developed the ReWire system instead.. imho much better stuff.
