I would have to go with one of the many Mario Universe games. Quite possibly some of the most well designed games in existence. And i think what beantas is after is discussing the techniques in which the game could be made. If we were to create the same game for instance.. how would we write the mechanics. We don't exactly have to go into exact detail on how the engine was, because the team that made it was paid enough money to live off of. Discussing it would still be worth while though. Offering our ideas on how we think it could be done.

Except if it''s in open source, then it''s perfectly OK..
I think Super Mario Bros is a pretty good starting place, the mechanics are nice and limited so it''s easy to see how all the components work together.
Then you have the level design that takes these components and mixes them togther + the art style for the Mario universe helps gel it all together. V.nice little game.

yes, everybody, spew out games you''d like to talk about, but don''t let''s talk about them, no, that would be too to-the-point
that mario one is going well, read it first
if you want to analyse a game, start a thread on that game. a thread about a possible thread is a little redundant
although analysis is both insightful and stimulating, we should be seing more of it but it''s so hard to do right. who can claim they know NOLF that well that they can tell the world how it works? could the designers themselves?
the thread on mario works because
a) everyone''s played it
b) the gameplay is pure and not swamped by OTT graphics/sound

Have they? I''ve not played a Mario game since Donkey Kong (the first one).
