Hi guys, I need once again your help. I am making an ghost image of Linux system with Norton Ghost 2003 and everything works fine. Then i do a uncompress of the image on a empty harddisk. Finally i reboot the machine, but it doesnt load properly. The linux shell just displays GRUB, and doesnt load further. Does anybody has already experience with that ?? -Sonu

Might want to learn how to use ghost with Linux. I''ve heard it''s not exactly the same way as with Windows. RTFM...

You will probably have to re-install the boot loader. I believe that it is geometry dependent. Unfortunately my only experience with grub was that it worked for a week or so, then without warning screwed up my master boot record. I removed it, and the linux that had installed it, and went back to using lilo with slackware.

If it is possible to re-install grub using a boot disk, that's probably your best option.

Actually, while the above may work, it would appear that Norton ghost is not that reliable for ext3, and may not be suitable for linux...

Cyberdrek, you need to be a little more patient and welcoming and a little less condescending if you intend to promote *nix. I know I used to be the quintessential geek prick (sometimes writing "RTFM" out in full), but I''ve learned that people get the wrong idea.

Furthermore, if you don''t have specific information or a helpful hint, just don''t post. There''s no need to aggravate GNUbies.
