dungeon siege
thats a 3rd person, action adventure rpg. although the screen is very isometric
best 3rd person action/adventure/RPG
My favorite (non-pc) third-person action game is Metal Gear Solid 2. My favorite third-person action game to appear on the PC is probably Jedi Knight II (the singleplayer). JKII kind of wins by default though, I am really not a gamer to a great extent.
My first thought was System Shock 2, but that isnt 3rd person at all.

Heh, I concur about ONI being one of the best 3rd person action games ever; it has just about the most satisfying fighting system I could imagine in a game with free movement. Zelda: OoT is a brilliant game too, though.

Oni was well done, although it had a few too many console game remnants for my liking (I played the PC version). Max Payne was enjoyable for a while, and it''s cinematic effects were very cool. I''m currently enjoying The Thing, which is a solid third-person title, although again there are many console remnants (save points, auto-aiming, etc.). Sacrifice was rather innovative, and much under-rated IMHO.
