How much does a professional game designer make per year?
This has been answered all too often before.

Well.....this is a rather broad question... this depends on how much work you do for the game, the company, the length you''ve been with your company, and also the jobs that you do.
Some of the gentlemen who follow this may question you reasons for wanting to design/program games.

In the 2nd Annual Salary Survey conducted by GameDeveloper Magazine and published in their July 2002 issue:

Design:
< 2years
$51,741

2-5 Years
$45,700

6+ Years
$62,727

With 13% of those surveyed being <2 years, 42% being in the industry for 2-5 years and 45% in over 6 years.

Average Salary:
Male: $47,735
Female: $75,786

Where 8% of those surveyed were female and the other 92% male.

55% of those surveyed received additional compensation to their salary.

45% did not receive additional compensation to their salary.

Average compensation worked out to be $19,832

The highest Salary was $220,000.
Lets sue the game industry for gender discrimination. Why the heck should the females be making more money? Its not right I tell you!

H2O

I can''t believe they made a website for that. I can''t wait to foward it to my friends! Wait...I don''t have any..nevermind.

As for women being paid more: I would pay a woman more to be my coworker. I prefer women coworkers to male coworkers. Besides, that''s just the design category!

The Female average in the proramming category is $54,312 and the male''s is $66,334. With only about 2.6% of the programmers surveyed being female. In fact out of Programming and Art, males have better salaries. Production work is close enough to be considered equal, and they beat men''s salaries in Design and Audio.

This is a great Magazine:
