I don''t think Tricks of the 3D Game Programming Gurus has been published yet (at least not that I have heard). Amazon.com says it won''t be here till June 2003.

Things are not what they are.

thats the secound edition, man did I got pissed when I got email from amazon encouraging me to buy it . . . I already have it, and its been 3 long years waitting for volume 2, as stated amazon says it wont be available until June 2003, I dont trust that, seems like lamothe pospones the release for 6 months, when the time is due he pospones for another 6 months, then repeats that 2 more times, and finally releases a 2 edition of the last book while posponing the next a whole year, I am so pissed I doubt I will buy it when its finally out.

Edit: the one I am waitting for-The one I have-Secound edition of the one I have, just released

I''ve had this item on my wish list since May of 2001:
"Tricks of the 3d Game Programming Gurus: Advanced 3d Graphics and Rasterization"

I know he wants to make sure it''s al ready by the time it''s published, (busy, yadda yadda yadda); but, COME ON ALREADY!

I''ve drooled into (and ruined) three keyboards since then. I need to sedate this hunger!
- Advice, eh? Well, besides working on your swing...you know, besides that...I'd have to think.

On the second edition:

Which version of the DirectX SDK does it have?

I only have the first edition, but I can guess that Lamothe probably includes the DX 8.0 or 8.1 SDK, but still uses some of the older interface/s such as DirectDraw.

After reading some posts on amazon.com one response was this

quote: All you need is the DirectX SDK (version 6 is on the CD, version 8 is latest available for D/L), the Visual C++ compiler and you can begin to design games.

I''m surprised that he wouldn''t include the latest version though, because the old interfaces are still readily available. (However, the examples would not be)

I have not seen the second edition, if you want to buy one, no doubt thats the one you want to buy, but if as stated it comes with SDK 6.0 (not even 7.0) I doubt it has anything else more than bug and typo corrections, the guy has been writting Volume 2 for 2+ years already, I doubt he gets any time to add to the old book.
