Well, so far I have the character pushing things around.
A little about where this game idea comes from. My family used to have a 286 back in the 90's with an orange monochrome monitor. One of my dad's friends from work programed a game called “Beast” using ASCII characters like in Rogue. The goal of the game was to smash all the beasts on the level between blocks. There were a few different types of beasts, ones that wandered around, ones that could hop over blocks, and ones that would turn into a few smaller beasts when smashed. That is about all I can remember from it.
The game got destroyed by milk because our hard drive couldn't hold that much so all our games were on 5" floppy disks. Well, one of my brothers was drinking milk while playing games on the computer and spilled the milk onto a bunch of disks. My dad's friend from work had left and moved to another state and they lost contact before the game disk was ruined.
Any way, I had a lot of fun playing that game, so I want to reproduce it. But I want to try to update it to about NES levels at the same time. I'm starting with reproducing a game called “The Adventures of Lolo” then changing the game into a mix between that and Beast, and I'm calling the game Beastly. So that means I'm going to be making two prototypes, one for Lolo, and then another with the Beast elements added in. The end goal is a puzzle game that involves squishing beasts with blocks. I'm hoping this game is as fun as the game I remember playing.
Right now, the first prototype has 4/30 tasks completed.
