Cows
I wonder if it would be possibly to make a fun childrens game where you play a cow that just wants to get fat and get eaten. Is there anyway to make grazing fun? Is there anyway to present the goal of getting consumed non-traumatizing?

Maybe the cow should wander around a city, looking for cow like …

ECM

ECM

Working in the fact that my car had a faulty ECM into conversation turned out to be a lot less satisfying than I thought. Also I got practically no programming done yesterday.

On the plus side, I do have some nice juicy pineapple. Mmmm. Fruit.

ImageMagick
So I managed to get SVG rendering in a MSVC program working by using ImageMagick. This was somewhat more annoying than I expected, primarily since ImageMagick depends on quite a few other libraries, but it works. Sort of. There are two problems, one smallish and one biggish.

The smaller problem is t…

More SVG
I was looking into SVG libraries and all the ones that are relatively mature seem to be very Windows unfriendly. Or rather MSVC unfriendly, I can get some to compile under cygwin. This isn't too surprising as SVG rendering depends on packages for both XML parsing and rendering. At this point I'm le…

Why being a programmer is bad for your health
So I own a hybrid electric car; a 2005 Honda Civic Hybrid to be precise. This decision was a lot easier to live with before I realized that, having so many electronic components, the car must have been programmed at some level. Basically I got a letter saying that my care needs a software update be…

Back to work on Seventh Star. One of the problems I was looking at various resolutions. Right now my test machines run at 1400x1050, 1280x720 and 1024x768. I would like the program to default to run at the same resolution as the desktop of the user; I consider that to be just polite. Of course, the…

Continued from last week
Last week I mentioned that I had gotten a copy of "C++ Coding Standards". Well the bilbliography for the book is available online. 85% of the material on that list is on my must read list of C++ literature. Highly recommended.

Back from the con
Ohayocon was interesting.

Smaller than I expected, a bit smaller than AnimeUSA, at least in terms of programming. I have no ideas about attendance figure though. But what it lacked in size, it made up for in disorganization. (More on that later.)

I was there with my brother who writes an anime dub re…

Book review
I just picked up a copy of "C++ Coding Standards" by Herb Sutter and Andrei Alexandrescu. Good stuff. I like the writing style, and agree with every point that I've read so far. I don't think there's any new material, but it's nice to have it all in the same spot.

And yes, it's real coding standard …

Mmm beef
Leaving for a convention tommorrow. In theory the hotel has internet so it may not even seem like I'm gone.

Of course, there's also the remote chance that I'll be having a wild and great time and won't even thinking of checking the boards.
