As part of the first day of Unite Now, the online programming initiative launched by Unity Technologies to support creators with ongoing online content, the company has today launched its first-ever podcast series: Unity: Behind the Game.
Featuring interviews with Unity creators, each episode of Unity: Behind the Game will delve deep into the production of a single game that is made with Unity to share stories of useful techniques, clever problem-solving, and lessons learned during the developer’s journey through production. The first episode is available now, and features an interview with Phi Dinh of Phigames about the creation of their upcoming hacker-themed Metroidvania, Recompile.
Listeners of the first episode will learn a great deal from the development of Recompile, including:
- how a viral GIF helped them realize they were on to something big
- why the musicians behind the No Man’s Sky soundtrack are making Recompile’s UI (and not its music)
- how the game’s development made the giant leap from Unity 5 to Unity 2019
- how HDRP is as effective for lighting as it is for achieving realism
- why Phigames actually wants players to break their game
Each episode of Unity: Behind the Game will debut exclusively on the Unite Now portal, and will be made available through all major podcast distribution channels at a later date. New episodes will be distributed bi-weekly, arriving every other Tuesday.
Today’s launch is a part of the greater Unite Now programming initiative, which will provide developers with an ongoing supply of rich content, learning sessions, creator stories and more in lieu of traditional event-based programming. Thanks for the info, hadn't heard about it, really fascinating. Unity is a unique engine, that's basically what I use with the guys https://iwanta.tech/ to create 3D games, it has a lot of features that are a pleasure to work with.
