Arm and Newzoo today released The Evolution of Gaming Through 5G report explores how 5G is shaping gaming, while taking a look at the different mobile eras that led us to where we are now.
Key findings include:
- There will be over 1 billion active 5G phones by 2022, 22% of which will be 5G compatible by then. (pg. 25)
- Consumers worldwide will spend over $160 billion on gaming in 2020. (pg. 28)
- Mobile gaming in 2019 saw $68.2 billion in revenue and accounted for 46% of the global gaming market revenue, commanding the lion’s share of all gaming revenue. (pg.29)
- 5G’s low latency and the convenience of smartphones will make mobile a key platform for cloud gaming. (pg. 31)
Steve Winburn, senior manager of Gaming Ecosystem at Arm, also published a blog post on the findings, discussing how 5G will be cloud gaming’s great enabler.
This week, Arm has also released ‘Performance Advisor’ as part of Arm Mobile Studio 2020.0, a new tool that can generate easy-to-read performance reports based on the rich technical performance data that can be gathered from platforms with Arm CPUs and GPUs.
