ok... maybe i should go bakc and edit my original post as to make it clearer and more easily understanable as it is currntly a garbled mess of babble.
First off, the game is futuristic, not contemporary.
the helmets can be dented and damaged in a number of ways (through the use of decals and animations simulating dents) and they last depending on the size of the bullet, the angle of the shot and the range.
I''m still sticking to just having the character black out.
note that i said SPRINT. if the player holds down the sprint key until the stamina meter is completely depleted, they''ve been running far too hard for far too long. after the stamina bar is lowered past 25% the player no longer runs but sort of jogs and then walks. if the player re-presses the sprint key during this time they run the risk of collapsing.
in the sp game players can die in an instant, and when they die they immediately switch to a different character as if they were that character the whole time.
sorry i have to cut this short but i''ll try to respond to your posts later when i have a bit mroe time.
...this is a recording.
a couple of ideas i've been messing around with... your opinion?
Sounds more like Metal Gear Solid. Snake moves and sways everytime he is trying to snipe. Other than that good game, but think about the consequences of realistic combat. This game you`re trying to make may not be good because you have a wimpy character who can`t go one minute without freaking out. If you want realism, make the character tough not a beginner who just arrived at bootcamp, jumps everytime he hears a sudden outburst.
If you are reading this, then you are too attached to signatures!!

I had a idea too.
What if you combined "King of the Hill" FPS with the robot lock-out "minigame" from "In Cold Blood"?
King of the hill is where you hold ground for points. The robot lock-out "minigame" was one in which you had computerized control of the doors in a level and needed to time the locking of doors so that robots got trapped.
You could give it a "System Shock" feel and let the "Shodan of the hill" determine which music was played or fill it with tech-ambient music.
