Creating platformer tilesets

I'm pretty much a novice in the game creation world, and I'm looking for some decent tutorials on creating tilesets. Specifically I'm doing a 2D sidescroller with a reasonably cartoony appearance (not quite Mario-style, probably closer to the look found in Jazz Jackrabbit 2, Sonic etc.). I know this is being a little vague, but I really am looking for very generalized stuff. So, any good links? Thanks. - Whiggles www.whiggles.da.ru [edited by - Whiggles on May 17, 2002 6:56:36 PM]

Look at Tsugumo''s tutorials... "So You Wanna Be a Pixel Artist." Don''t have the link... anyone?

Also look at articles here at GameDev. Check the art section and also search for articles about tile transitions.

Thanks for the link, but I've already read this one and it wasn't really what I was looking for. I'm looking for something more along the lines of the actual practical side, e.g. tips for how to set out drawing the tiles, coloring them etc. The game I'm doing is going to be 800x600 so the look I'm going for isn't much like the low-res SNES-style that the Pixel Artist tutorials go for.
