I was just wondering did anyone produce a worthwhile game while adhering to the Dogma 2001 rules? http://www.gamasutra.com/features/20010129/adams_01.htm I’ve had a look around and I can’t find one. I was thinking that I might be so bold as to try.. and well I’ve started trying, it’s not easy but I think I’ve a concept that might work. When I get something more concrete I thought I might post the preliminary design spec here for you lot to tear apart and laugh at..
I think the dogma2001 was more of a cry for originality and a true return to classic gaming. Theres probably a few independant shockwaveflash projects here and there, but that''d probably be it. I take the dogma2001 myself as just a guideline to remember when a question comes up, rather than a creed to follow to the word of the law. I''m probably mistaken though.

The Dogma thing was something to think about, not something to follow. Anyone who sticks to hard and fast rules about games or movies or literature or whatever is asking for trouble.

If you want to make a quality game, just make a quality game.

There were these Dogma rules for short stories as well. But many great classis short stories break the rules, and the stories that were collected and published as having followed the Dogma rules mostly sucked. The "Dogma" rules are just that - Dogma. Why would anyone waste their time following some set of rules, just to show that they could?

The problems of quality are not so much that there are specific rules being broken - the problem is that if you set out to make a mediocre product that''s what you get. The Dogma stuff is just a viewpoint to think about, nothing more.
Yeah. Have you ever played locked in a dark room?
-Forcaswriteln("Does this actually work?");
I take it that''s a NO then.
