Another Benefit of a College Degree

Besides getting your actual degree, whatever it may be, there is another *huge* advantage to attending college: You will never again, at any point in your life, have the oppurtunity to meet (and sift through) as many adults (or near-adults) at or close to your age level as you will in college. Every 16 weeks, as your class schedule changes, you will have another 500-1000 (or more) people in your classes you''ve never met. This adds up to more people to become friends with, more people to date ;-), and more potential cross-industry contacts than you are likely to encounter in any other situation. If you ever get a job that provides the same kind of "people throughput", you''re probably a teacher/professor/salesman/prison guard (or at a really nasty place to work with incredible turnover). Otherwise, you''ll go to work for a company, even a big company, and your exposure to new faces will probably not exceed 50 in a year. Sure, conferences and similar events provide oppurtunities to augment that number, but I doubt most companies will send you to enough conferences in a year to approach anything like the numbers you''ll see in college. College is probably the best networking oppurtunity you''re likely to find. Use it for all it''s worth. The above has been a Public Service Announcement. DavidRM
