These are for the vast majority games which are designed to allow people to pass the time while they are waiting for something (in my opinion). So they are either old ''arcade'' style games (Snake), or puzzle based games (block pushing games like Sokoban). They are shouldn''t need much explaining before the player can start playing. What do people think of these games, personally I think that they are fun to play for a while everynow and then, but a bit of a strain on the eyes. Any thoughts on how to improve these games?
These games really are great for passing the time. Personally, I''d like to see arcade style games, maybe some old classics that were engaging but not so frenetic that older adults couldn''t get into them. (I''m thinking of Frogger, for example, or Ms. PacMan, which were popular in laundermats throughout the US)

I''d also like to see more use of sound gameplay, maybe like "Simon Says" or musical tone games.

I could not possibly think of anything more annoying than sitting next to someone playing Simon Says on their cell phone. Its bad enough that we have to listen to their conversations.

LOL! Whoa, I never thought of that!!! I always use my hands-free device, so I was thinking it would be totally silent.

Maybe put in some code that requires and earpiece?

Some of the games are fun, but the tiny screen and bad control scheme kills most games that I have played, IMO. Let''s wait until mobile phones and PDAs begin to become one and the same--then we can get excited. If SDKs were released for the different phones, then we could expect to see a lot of retro stuff, probably including some emulators. Until then, I''d rather play my Game Boy Advance.

If you have one of these phones that are connected to the internet for email, why not play a game of chess (or some such game) over your phone with someone else?
I think the games have to go more into inter-phone style to be more sucessful. I never play on my phone today cause I get bored to sit and just play snake or whatever on a tiny screen for myself. Chess via some protocol with some friend sounds much more fun. There is nothing like a good ol'' fight beteween friends...

The mobile phone games are designed to be "fun to play every now and then" - I havent yet met someone who is a hard-core mobile phone games player I dont think there''s any way to improve these types of games (simple arcade/puzzlers) in terms of usability besides buying a mobile phone with a bigger screen or increasing screen resolution.

I''ve sometimes thought about the possibilities of mobile phone gaming over the Internet or between phones. I dont think multiplayer real-time games will ever be popular besides being a novelty like the existing arcade/puzzler games. PBEM-type games or turn-based games have more potential if they are linked to the Internet or a telecommunications company runs a game service.

At the moment, using e-mail or mobile messaging service to play a turn-based game via your mobile phone would not be cheap. In Australia it would cost $10 for a 50-move game of chess.

On another topic, I would love the opportunity to be able to program my mobile phone so that I could make my own games on them Does anyone know of a programmable mobile phone?
I know that at least Siemens has a phone with Java support. I think you can make programs and then load em in your cell. But I am not 100% sure.
