the tutorial at www.winprog.org is farily short and simple, and it will get you making windows and maybe even some controls there...

Well.. I would suggest you learn Simple DirectMedia Layer. It''s a graphics, sound, and input API that is multiplatformed. There is no Windows programming involved here, and the API itself is quite powerful.

You''ll be making games quite quickly if you start now.

Check out the tutorials on this site (articles and resources/game programming/simple directmedia layer), and then reffer to the links in my profile signature for more help.

This is a good way to start, however, once you get the hang of it, I suggest you learn Windows programming and a 3D graphics API.
