Silent Kills
In a sim-?combat? game (Thief/Rainbow Six/Others) its possible to kill an npc with a single shot (In Theif if you're not noticed, in R6 if the bullet hits face, unarmered chest). My question is: What areas of the body/face should a player be able to aim for in order to not only kill an enemy but do it so they don't scream/gurgle/quote a long winded death speech? In R6 and Theif it seemed quite random.

Using medival weapons (arrows, darts, poison tipped swords)

Sneak up from behind with a long dagger and cut through the larynx. They might gurgle a little, but they definitely won''t be talking.
Neck-break, always a top choice, except that it makes a little bit of a clunk.

Using a sword to slice of their head also works. An arrow straight through the mouth usually does the trick, same goes for an arrow through your neck (from the front (same as with the dagger as suggested before)).
I''m not sure about an arrow through the eye though. It''s instant kill, that''s for sure (enters brain ''causing the kill), but I''m not sure if the body still has enough reflexes to make sound.

as far as I know the only sure place to guarantee a kill without residual reflex action or noise would be the spot where the spinal column meets the cranium, or the area of brain just above that.
From the front the target area would be roughly triangular, extending from the nose down to the chin, marked on the sides by the corners of the mouth.
from the sides/behind it´s pretty self-explanatory anyways..

Supposedly, the best way to quietly kill someone is to jam a knife in their lower back with a strong upward thrust. This way you will puncture their lung, preventing any air from escaping their mouth while they die (they can''t cry out or gurgle).
Don''t ask me how I know this. I think I read it somewhere...but maybe I''m an assassin and don''t remember how I know this (re: The Bourne Identity).
Nevertheless, this is a rather gruesome topic.

doesn´t that give you a nice, warm, fuzzy feeling inside?
this wasn''t supposed to be a gruesome topic, I''m designing a thief style game (ninja theme simulation) and whether or not a guard screams out when you kill him with a dart from the shadows is quite important (It will alert other guards). I was simply looking for a way to it possible for this feat to require skill (aim) rather than luck.
How about a fast-acting tranquilizer...didn''t Ninjas have all that kind of cool stuff??
