Also, I will be moderating the AI in Adventure/RPG Games Roundtable, which should have lots
of NPC relative discussions.

Is that the one currently titled "AI in Computer Games"? Also, how solid is that schedule of Thursday at 3:30? There are 2 other sessions at that time that I am interested in. "Preproduction", which my partner/fiance' will be likely going to anyway so I don't have to be there… and "RTS Game Balance". I would take the AI one over the other two, but am interested in finding out if the schedules that are listed are good or not.

Hey Mark:

As Geta said the dinner is pretty solid; I doubt that there will be much reason to move it from Saturday at this late date.

As to the roundtables those dates are (I think) set in stone by the GDC folks. We are doing other roundtables though. On Wednesday Neil, Eric, and myself will have three independent roundtables talking about anything game AI related. On Thursday we try to focus on individual topics, again in three independent and co-running roundtables–Eric has adventure/RPG games, I've got wargames/RTS-style games, and Neil has FPS games I believe. On Friday we combine the sessions into a big "Q&A" session intended *mostly* as an "AI for Beginners" kind of thing–we answer basic questions about where to get info, how to solve particular problems, help producers/artists/etc. understand what the heck the AI guy is talking about, etc.

I hope a lot of folks in these here parts can attend both the sessions and the dinner….

Don''t forget to attend the Fifth Annual AI Programmer''s Dinner, co-hosted by the Ferretman,
Neil Kirby and myself. Its always alot of fun and generates great AI discussions (check gameai.com
for pictures of previous dinners). Watch here for the announcement of date, time and venue.

All the times are confirmed from GDC. You can find Steve and myself (and our collegue Neil Kirby)
hosting roundtables on AI at:

March 21 2:30pm
General Topic Session

March 22 10:30am
AI in FPS - Neil
AI in Wargames/Strategy Games - Steve
AI in Adventure/RPG Games - Eric

March 23 3:30pm
AI for Beginners Interactive Discussion

See... the problem is they have listed all 3 days worth of sessions in ONE listing on the GDC site. It is very confusing that way. What''s more, there is a session Thursday evening entitled "AI in Strategy Games" hosted by Dennis Papp that seems to have nothing to do with the ones you guys are hosting. If you guys have 3 (or 5) sessions, they should all be listed as separate events, shouldn''t they?

That''s the problem... a few weeks ago there were different dates and times depending on whether you looked at a session on its individual page or in the list. It was all hoarked up.

Uh... perhaps Thursday, Friday, Saturday... right?

As it stands now, I should be able to hit em'' all!

Chineese doesn''t suck! (Unless the Chineese sucks, in which case only THAT Chineese sucks - but that''s rather important since it would be only Chineese with a relevant proximity and would be considered unfortunate despite the existance of a cookie bearing a seemingly contradictory moniker. However, in general, Chineese that doesn''t suck, doesn''t suck.)

I disagree... sometimes, that''s not always a good thing! Kinda like meeting that chick you''ve been having cybersex with and finding out she''s 87 and 300 pounds... it was better left to the imagination. (Unless she was Chineese and didn''t suck... er.. or... uh... nevermind...)

Dave, you are preaching to the choir with that point.

We have listed ourselves as 3 distinct sessions for 2 days and a combined session for
day 3, for the last 6 years (yes, we have been doing this that long!) and GDC keeps
making the same mistake over and over each year. We mention to them that the way
we are listed is confusing, and has an effect on attendance, and they keep responding
that they will get it right next year. And then they don''t.

What do you do?

You're right; I always do that. I forget to account for my travel day and dork things up. Sorry 'bout that gang.
