Character Class Designs
I think it would be cool if there were a list of fleshed out character sketches for people to read through while developing their game. Reading well thought out, seldomly used character classes could help inspire those in the community who have hit a creative block while designing their game. It could also help those of us who won't be able to fully develop a game see their ideas brought to life.
Anyway, I will start out:
[Secret Agent/Spy]
Characters of this class have the unique ability to quickly pick up customs of different races and societies. When let go from a party, the character will stay and learn how to blend in with the type of people they are around. For example, let's assume the character is male and your party seperates from him at a dock. Given enough time, he will become one of the guys and will grow in stature and respect within the "dock" community. Members of the community will start leaving him hints and trusting him with secrets, such as which ships carry rare cargo or which transport will be carrying a prominent political figure and when they will be arriving. Another use would be to drop the character off in a royal stable and build their reputation up there. Learning which diplomats travel with light envoys would be a good way to know who is easier prey.
Of course, this character would be affected by a few different characteristics. You would not be able to drop the character off wearing a fancy coat and a diamond hilted sword if you expected them to be able to blend in with the middle or lower class. By the same token, you would not outfit them with a leather jerkin and a wooden sword if you wanted them to mingle in the upper echelon. NPC groups would have an attribute that describes what their social "standard" is and, upon first meeting the character, the group calculates a first impression that determines how to react to the character. If the standard is a 5 and the character has a look of value of 15, the group tends to think the character feels he is better than they are and treat what he says with some disdain.
