Ability to remove attachments from posts?

After I add an attachment to a post, it seems impossible to remove it without deleting the post entirely. Am I missing something?

If it's a post that's already been posted then that's intentional. Otherwise, attachments could be deleted at some point in the future, and we'd have broken images from removed attachments. There is a problem with this - the attachment counts against your account upload quota, but there are other things we can do to address this.

Otherwise, you should be able to delete an attachment while editing. If not, sounds like a problem.

Hmm, this was during editing of a previously-posted topic. But you'd think that anything I can put into a post, I can take out.

In my opinion this site should definitely allow removing attachments after the fact.

Due to the nature of these forums, a lot of us operate under various NDAs. If we upload something which accidentally breaches that (say a screenshot with NDA'd information visible unintentionally), we should be able to remove said content ourselves.

Hello to all my stalkers.

As long as a moderator or admin can do that, it'd be fine imho.

You're probably better off notifying the other party ASAP to let them know of a potential breach of terms.  The moment you post content, you no longer have a guarantee that it hasn't been copied and won't turn up again some time to bite you in the ass.

can't help being grumpy...

Just need to let some steam out, so my head doesn't explode...

Ok, we'll give it a run. I'm concerned with content being deleted and having broken images, but let's see how it goes.

Most topics from the old site have broken images anyway :)

(many of the image-upload sites I used in the mid-2000s have long since disappeared)

One different bit now is that if you link to an external image we cache it locally anyway.. so hopefully no more of that.
