Does the university then have to "enforce" diversity in all its events? Though I understand the point of diversity, but enforcing it might hurt more than it help.

It is generally frowned upon to neglect diversity at *any* event in education, or even in the tech industry in general.

There may be fewer women/black/etc in industry than there are white males, but that doesn't mean it's justified to organise events composed entirely of white males...

Even when it was due to scheduling conflicts as DailyTrojan pointed out?

I am not a white male, but the reason I would go to these events or conferences is to network and learn something new. I prefer learning new subjects and interesting topics of discussions than seeing 50-50 gender/racial equality just for the sake of diversity.

There is of course a rather huge difference between "No, you can't be part of this", and "These are the people who are available".

Diversity is something to be encouraged and taken advantage of when it is available, but becoming overly focused on it has always been extremely damaging to any project or group I've been involved with.

No... but don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Aiming for diversity = good.
Aiming for diversity but putting on a non-diverse event because of unseen circumstances = good, you tried.
Cancelling an event because your token minority won't be there to achieve your diversity quota = bad, you've become what you're fighting against.

Your completely incorrect paraphrasing of the article suggests that you want to be outraged and are prejudiced to a particular slant here, so be careful of where that could lead you.

Also I wonder how many 'Legends of the Game Industry' had their weekly plans completely screwed because of one persons oppressive decision?
