Pixel art is too mainstream (also TypeScript is kinda nice)
As far as typescript goes:
I have tried these "transpiled" languages (coffeescript, typescript) in the past and didn't find it was worth the effort to deal with the additional tooling. You can't actually escape the semantics of JavaScript and I am perfectly comfortable coding entirely in JS. So I happily continued with JavaScript.
However.
The TypeScript tooling in VS 2015 is entirely seamless so there is absolutely no barrier to working in TypeScript. I do expect to gain productivity when working in large codebases since the biggest annoyance with large JavaScript codebases is discovering errors at runtime that easily could have been caught by a compiler. For the most part the TyoeScript language makes sense and I find is an improvement over JavaScript. The only thing I don't really understand is the insistence that only private members are acquired directly from an ancestor in the inheritance hierarchy, but for some reason it will duck type on public members. Maybe that's to prevent clobbering a base class' internal implementation that a subclass shouldn't know about?
Well, it would have been a fair question if you had actually put the word "productivity" in your post.
That's generally assumed in those types of question. But ok.
So what score did you get?
Thanks for playing! I had so much fun creating this tiny little game that I think I'll build some more little ASCII games like it. It really only took a few hours to get it running and then maybe a few more to work out any obvious bugs.
I don't know if my eyes were playing tricks on me or not. But did you have the screen scroll horizontally as well as vertically?
And no. Thank you for making and sharing the game.
Nope, just vertical scrolling. Maybe the motion of the road weaving back and forth over the green created the illusion of horizontal motion.
Figured but just wanted to make sure.
Or I have a bug.
Best bug ever produced. Call it a feature. And we'll be good.
Your game remind me very much of the Death Valley game that features in the Space Games edition of the Usborne programming books from the mid-80s. Perhaps you can find some other inspiration for text based games from the books, which can be found here: http://mocagh.org/loadpage.php?getcompany=usborne-hayes
Awesome list. Maybe this can be added to the For Beginner FAQ.
11,240. Those roads get really tight. Definitely not OSHA certified :D
My high score in the Chrome "webpage unavailable" dino-jump game, however, is 25,372.
I'm sorry about any spelling or grammar mistakes or any undue brevity, as I'm most likely typing on my phone
