Question

Is using a preconceived “concept” okay? (I read someone saying thats it's not ok, but I don't see that in the rules), I keep a lot of design ideas down.

I guess an example would be (pretend the theme is "heroes") if I had a company of heroes type of RTS idea (and lets pretend these games don't exist(no mining for resources but gained in map control)) and then realized I could do a dawn of war style RTS (pretty much same except with heroes). I think that's ok right? It's not like I'm saying "oh ya, but each individual is a hero so that fits the hero theme" and not change my idea. Otherwise I have no idea how I could enter since I keep a huge list of genres/game types and variations on them to use as needed.

Any team announced after the start of the competition is not given a spot on the splashscreen. Its a little thing, but my goal is to get more folks out of silently competing

Maybe next time give an hour window after announcement? That way people can see the theme and know if they want to compete or not?

Absolutely this is fine, i fully expect each contestant to have some general ideas of what they do or dont want to do. The theme is mostly just for being a curveball that you can either figure out how to work into your game, or go another direction. All i ask is that the physical work on the game is done during the competition.

I will keep this in consideration for next year. I believe this years theme has been better received then last year, but its still not fully accepted(i mean no theme will be 100% liked) after reading over many journals on worrys about this years theme resulting in many similar games, next year i intend to present 3 themes that you can choose from. This will give us both more variety, and a better chance people will find something they can get behind. But alas this is all for next years.
Check out https://www.facebook.com/LiquidGames for some great games made by me on the Playstation Mobile market.

I fully agree with this, I would've spoken up sooner if I had remembered the competition.

Remember to mark someones post as helpful if you found it so.

Due to the amount of work for you judges, Would it be an idea to give each judge a small amount out of the prize money or something as a show of appreciation?

1 book per judge? I'd be willing to gift a book or two.
