I don't think the screen door effect is such a big deal, at least not for me.

In my experience, your brain filters most of it out pretty quickly as long as what is showing is interesting enough and you don't constantly force yourself to look for it and make yourself annoyed by it

An interesting effect is the fact that your head-movements compensate a bit for the lack of resolution.

If you can't read some text, move your head around a bit, and it becomes clearer.

Of course, it would be nicer with a higher resolution, so you get smaller dots-of-light and better edge-definition.

Because head-movements help, I also think that an upscaled image might work better then one might expect..

Ironic then that virtual reality is probably going to lead to a rise in non-photorealistic art styles again then :)
