Graphic Design Program - For creating all of your graphical assets. I could use rhino and blender for graphic design. Although I only know the basics about modeling(in rhino) and materials/animation(in blender).

Production Software - For working with your assets and scripts. Your scripts will be used to code menus/gameplay/network/database. Also its important that you can package your client/servers , as well as keep them updated and expandable. I would need a lot of help with this.

Machines - For running your server. I don't know what kind of machine or internet connection I would need.

Database - For saving information. I don't know how these work I only know that they're important. I'm assuming they're some kind of web host thats entirely different than a website.

HTML - For website integration and marketing.

Audio - For music and FX. I only know about music production, nothing about FX.

I'm just sort of gathering my thoughts with this thread. If you have a comment it would be nice.

You might want a bit more of a summary so we can better understand what it is you're posting about.

I can go into detail about each of those topics. But it would sound more like a list of terms that I know and understand.

I know various surfacing techniques, and how to use bones and keyframes in blender.

I know basic code concepts: variables, functions, if statements, arrays, loops.

I have a radical idea that I somehow think I can get someone to make an engine for me. For which I could implement content for my game by working inside the confines of it. I believe that theres a lot of complex scripts that go into making a game on the market today. Stuff that's way beyond my capabilities. But I do believe that I'd still be able to work with these scripts even if I didn't design them. Just like you used to be able to work with UDK to mod UT... I want to work with an engine that was specifically designed for me for my game idea that I could use to mod my game.

I don't know I don't want to turn it into a rant of just about everything I can think of in terms of game development. I wanted to keep it simple just to a few topics and see what other people had to say about my short sweet little post.

Perhaps the Breaking In FAQ or the For Beginners FAQ will be of help?

You generally will not be able to have someone make an engine for you without monetary compensation. As well, there are many viable free options available. Have you perhaps looked into them?

Focusing your ideas into a single (or few) thoughts will definitely help us help you better :)

I have no idea what you want out of this thread, you sound like someone who has next to no experiance with actual game design right now. No one is going to build you an engind without you providing a fair bit of money. Which means either using the free engines/frameworks such as Unity free, Ogre, SFML, SDL, etc, or some of the paid engines such as unity or UE4. As it stands though this thread imo is pointless and lacks any form of producing a meaniful discussion from.

I'm sorry if you think I'm wasting valuable forum space. I'm just trying to find a niche where I can talk about what I know without negative criticism. I'm just trying to get as much background info I can. I'm not working with specific problems. I'm not even working on anything. I just want to discuss the game industry as a whole. I'm not even asking anything.

Someone informed me if I just want to post something that's very general and not asking specific questions I'd be better off using a blog than a forum.

There is a section called Developer Journal, that you might also want to try. It's basically a blog.

I just want to discuss the game industry as a whole. I'm not even asking anything.

I think that's the problem. People aren't bothered by you wanting to discuss things (that's what discussion forums are for, after all), we just aren't quite understanding what you are trying to discuss. Nobody is trying to be rude to you, we're just not understanding what you are saying.

You say you aren't asking anything. Are you making a declaration or statement of some kind?

The thread title "What I want for a simple entrance into the industry" doesn't make much sense. It sounds like a question, but you're saying it's not a question.

Usually, if you want to start a conversation with someone, you need to provide the topic of the conversation, and then the conversation develops organically from there.

You say you are discussing "the industry as a whole", but almost every thread on this forum is about the industry. You need to narrow it down alot more.

Do you have some specific questions you'd like answered?

Again, nobody is trying to be rude, we're just confused. wacko.png
