Hey!

I'm having some issues with thinking in terms of light and shadow and properly rendering my scenes.

By scenes I mean just composition with pencil and paper - not some kind of 3d view :)

I'm finding some tips and 'recipe' how to do it in anatomy or figure drawing book but I need some help in thinking in those terms and how to use it from imagination - and not only in single pencil drawings but also in terms of colours, movement etc

I don't know how to express my problem really but hope did it well ;)

And another thing - I'd be grateful if you could let me know about resource/book that covers light and shadow in humanistic way - how it affects emotions, storytelling, relations and other stuff :)

There are too many books to recommend. Please read the customer comments before buying anything:

great recomendations, thanks :)

I will also see 'what customers viewed' and that stuff, maybe it will show some more great resource.

and by the way, would you recommend some painting techniques book but what can be applied to digital media?

there are lots of tutorials about digital painting focused on how to make a photo looking like a painting, or too technical (where's more functions than actual pencil strokes)

so if you can think about good tuts in this topic I'd be thankfull again :)

If you find other good books, please share here as well.

There are actually a lot of good resources in the "2D tutorials and learning resources thread."

One of the resources there, relevant to what you want:
http://www.ctrlpaint.com/library/ (Part 8, video "Brush Technique: Blending" among others)

And also this from DeviantArt:

Regarding blending colours:
After extensive research, I noticed that the most accepted way of blending colours while digitally painting is to use a semitransparent brush, either hard or soft edged, and use repetitive colour picking so that you can blend with the colours that come together while you're painting on the edge between two separate colours on your canvas. On your first blending stroke you already get some intermediary colours that you will then colour pick and use right after, repeating this process until you have a smooth transition. So most do not use the "smudge" tool in this process at all, but there are a few artists who do.
This is based on the opinions of several artists:
