Let me introduce myself a little :)

Hello there!

I thought it's a good start into this community to introduce myself a bit - I also get an impression of the community here, depending on your answers (so don't post anything bad in this thread, muhaha - nah, just kidding) smile.png

I'm a .NET developer since a long time, primarily focusing C# 5.0, but developed my first games with Blitz3D.

It is probably not so unknown that Blitz3D is a decade old basic-engine/language/compiler hybrid using DirectX 7. The language doesn't even feature OOP, so I decided I have to overhaul this and write my own engine - of course there's also an OOP successor of Blitz3D called BlitzMax, but I never really liked the Basic syntax. Also my interest moved more towards the

">"stuff behind the triangles" and the things an engine has to do.

So I started my own engine a month ago, setting high targets (a MarioKart clone eventually), but keeping tasks and goals small and simple to accomplish (or I'd get demotivated too soon). It is written in C# and uses SharpDX with DX11. At first I wanted to keep it portable, but C++ and portability was an overkill fastly and will probably be a topic after I finished this first engine.

I call it Spark and it's designed a bit like the B3D command set (yet in an object-orientated fashion).

I also taught myself a bit of 3D modelling, FL Studio composition and a bit more in (2D) graphics design. For those C++ lovers (including me) I once recreated the (yet simple) model of the C++ 6.0 splash screen as a HD wallpaper. My first try in composing background menu music for my game ended up like this (tiring eh?). Some (to count: two, so impressive...) graphics can be seen on my games project website which just shows some progress at the moment. Oh, and here's and old, unfinished, buggy and stupid old B3D bomberman clone based on an old 2D game (surprisingly called Bomby).

Another IT hobby is to dissect old and new games, make them run on new operating systems or just create cheats / hacks (which may not gain me popularity here for some).

I recently had some problems with maths and the user Kryzon helped me out on the B3D forums, and told me that this community has many talented people, so I signed up here to lower the average talent per user :S just kidding, I hope to find some interesting topics and talks here and also hope to not go on my nerves with my many questions I'll might have in the future smile.png

Read you here!

PS: I chose this nick a long time ago because I always played a Pac-Man DOS clone in the 90s... too often and too long. But it was fun finding out the ghosts personality and all that stuff which the Pac-Man Dossier might blab you (not mine, but an awesome read!) ;)

Well welcome!

It's good you are well-rounded, as that is a good trait to have it seems when making indie games.

Lot's of people here know their stuff, and they are very helpful. I am new to game development and programming, and I have already had so much useful input from this site.

You will like this site. Take care.

They call me the Tutorial Doctor.

New here as well (Ok, not, but I've just kind of lurked reading articles, not posted or been on the forums too overly much), so I can't say much about the community here, but I have found quite a few useful things here. Thought I'd drop in and welcome another new member. Can't a get much simpler way to start participating right? wink.png

So yea, welcome to the gamedev forums!

Hi there!

That's an interesting presentation! You seem to do quite a bunch of fun stuff. Actually I'm new on the forums as weel, looks like there many useful things to do here.

Welcome, and see you in one or another topic ! wink.png

Welcome to GDNet! smile.png

Sounds like you've done quite a range of different things, looking forward to seeing how your engine project goes! Hope you find our community friendly and helpful! cool.png

Thanks for the nice replies :) I keep you updated about my engine, between the many questions I'll probably post in the future :D

It's still in a very basic shape as you can see from the games website so there's not much to see right now except some rainbow colored triangles rotating around others in a 3D space :)

Welcome!

Where did you find the time for all of that? I have to earn an living and struggle to make time for everything that I am doing with games.

The 3D area is addictive! One could focus only on that and be totally occupied for life!

Personal life and your private thoughts always effect your career. Research is the intellectual backbone of game development and the first order. Version Control is crucial for full management of applications and software. The better the workflow pipeline, then the greater the potential output for a quality game. Completing projects is the last but finest order.

Welcome Pacmani, nice set of skills.

What's the final 'i' about?

Previously "Krohm"

The "i" is because "Pac-Man" or "PacMan" is often used already everywhere. In fact I had simply Pac-Man or PacMan before but want a unique nick everywhere, and decided to add an i behind it. Sometimes even that is used (possibly by myself and I forgot the account), then it's PacMani with trash behind or PacManl :D

I also don't spend too much time on my engine. I had holidays for some weeks and spent the whole time on it then, but now where I work it's almost frozen and only moves forwards like a turtle.

Welcome to GDNet. While I like the username, I can't help but think of the boxer Manny "Pac-Man" Pacquiao when I see it.
