Which project should I work on first?

I am currently working on two projects.

Catch them gems. 'Finishing' would mean adding about 7 more maps and an options screen.

Particle pong For Particle pong I would like to add a few more effects, an options screen and possible release the particle system as a library.

I am trying to transition from IT(laptop repair type stuff) to software development(any software not just game dev) and I guess I was wondering which project would have a bigger impact on potential employers.

I can't answer on behalf on any potential employers, but I would guess having anything in your portfolio is a good thing. I can see both of your games having the potential to become fun and playable games, though they both need a bit of polishing. I especially love your take on particle pong. I can see a lot of fun stuff you can do to build on that.

The other game can also be fun to play, given you add some more things to the game, but I realise none of the games are finished, and you basically are asking which one to prioritise to catch a future employers attention. One minor suggestion: saying "good" every time you pick a gem seems a bit obvious, not really giving any necessary information. Maybe have your score zoom out, or show you how many points you got, but again, I understand these are not completed games. :) I really think both of your games can be fun to play, given just a little bit more development.

Particle Pong looks far more polished and playable than Catch the Gems. If I had to choose which one of those to use for a resume, I'd probably go for Particle Pong. However, Catch the Gems has more potential for fun game mechanics, and could probably be brought up to the same visual standard with little work.

Well I'll answer it this way.

1 polished and finished project is definitely better than none.

2 polished and finished projects is much, much better than one.

Catch the gems needs 100 levels or something to be a good game, so i say finish the Pong first because its so boring.
