I don't think a game should receive threats, or undue hype.
The odd thing is that negative criticism just fuels the hype - you have people hearing its bad, but then wonder why it's "popular", so they buy/try it out to see how bad it is... (this occurs with all sorts of things, I saw it happening with 50 SOG).
Is it a fantastic idea though? It's a simple mechanics that has been done to death since arcade machines in 70s and has appeared on mobile devices in tens of iterations.
Any Idea that makes $50,000 a day is a fantastic idea wheather intentionaly or not.
It was a good idea for him to write a game, in the same sense that for someone who wins the lottery, it was a good idea to buy a ticket. But we can only say that in hindsight, and there is no evidence that anything about the game itself has good ideas, any more than the lottery ticket buyer had a good idea on how to choose numbers.
