Hi there,

I'm new to the site, and have been working in the game industry for 2 years now. In an effort to improve my work and knowledge about games, I want to read some books on Game Design. I read The Art of Game Design by Jesse Schell when I first started working. Other than that, I haven't read much else, so I'm looking to get some help. If you had to recommend say 3 game design books, what would they be?

I have a huge list of them on my website. Here are a few:

David Perry on Game Design; A Brainstorming Toolbox
by David Perry, Rusel DeMaria

Game Design Workshop: Designing, Prototyping, and Playtesting Games
by Tracy Fullerton

Andrew Rollings and Ernest Adams On Game Design
by Andrew Rollings and Ernest Adams (duh)

Game Design
by Bob Bates

The Design of Everyday Things
by Donald A. Norman

The Art of Human-Computer Interface Design
edited by Brenda Laurel.

Tom has provided a pretty good list of books that covers everything I would have suggested, but I'll share some links to online resources you might find valuable.

Lost Garden (a good starting point is articles tagged "worth reading")

Designer's Notebook

The No Twinkie Database

Game Tycoon <- covers more business topics, but there are also some great design tips and insights into the market

Raph Koster's blog

Hope you find those helpful! smile.png
