PS4 and its news

I'm curious if the ps4 is powerful enough to emulate the ps2 this time around.

It's not a matter of simply power. The support for PS2 would also need to be built into the OS (and would probably require extra circuitry and chips on the motherboard), increasing the cost.

Not really. PCSX2 can emulate many PS2 games with astonishing quality. Though it may not be suitable for "release" or "professional" quality, as there are occasional glitches here and there plus sudden major slowdowns.

The PS4 however uses GDDR5 which has terribly high latency. And PCSX2 needs very low latency because it's constantly checking for floating point operation errors (PS2 diverges vastly from IEEE 754 behavior) which could kill fully-software-based PS2 emulation solutions on the PS4

i don't think it'd need extra/special chips like the ps3 did, the pc emulator is pretty top-notch, and the ps4 is defiantly on par for a pc that could run ps2 emulators, it'll probably have to be built into the OS, but I think the PS4 would be powerful enough as is, if sony built it.

Oh, ok. I misunderstood something somewhere else, then. I thought Gaikai was an online-emulator in the likes of Console Classix.

It's more of an onlive.

Well I've just cancelled my Xbox One pre-order to get a PS4 instead. I think I've made the right decision in the end. Cheaper and doesn't have a stupid Kinect which I've never wanted nor am I particularly pleased about the idea of it being always on. The only thing I'll really miss on the PS4 is the Xbox controller which I always preferred.

I've always favored the 360's controller, too. But something tells me it will be fairly easy to readjust to the PS4's layout. :P

Though I get your point, the Kinect is an inherent part of the xbox one. It is not an addon that you are forced to buy. It's like not buying a wii because it comes with those stupid wiimotes you've never wanted.

Personally I don't get the kinect hate. There's a bunch of cool stuff on kinect, and the new kinect is better in every regard. I'm excited to see how it's used now that developers have a guarantee of it's existence. Not many games were doing the, "enhanced with kinect," approach because it was a lot of work to add for not knowing if you even had the userbase to take advantage of it. I'm excited to see what developers do with it as a secondary support input method in addition to controllers. I'm also excited to see what people are able to do not that it's able to sense some light hand gesture tracking (closed/open/pointing hands).

The PS4's is far better than the PS3s. The layout change was never an issue for me (aside from button callouts in games like, "press X"), it was just that the controller did not work with my hands.

Oh, I didn't mean to type layout, I meant design. :P

The PS controllers have always felt a little uncomfortable in my hands, because of the way the handles are shaped. I'm fine with the buttons and analog sticks, it's just the overall design is not as comfortable as the 360 controller.

Guess we'll all have to get used to it, though. :P

For me it is the size. The PS controller has always felt too small for my hands.

I guess the reason I dislike the idea of paying for a Kinect is because I just don't have the room to make use of it. I have my consoles in my study for when I finish working and with my desks and bookshelves I have no room to move around. I have enough room for a chair to sit on and that is about it.

That's only true of exclusive titles though. Anything cross-platform still has the same problem as before, no ?
