Hey everyone,

anybody ever struggle with coming up with game ideas? i am determined to make a game, im buying new hardware to do it, but i find it difficult to come up with good ideas. Im not out to try to make some world class game by myself, because i know i cant.

however i am trying to come up with an idea that is simple yet entertaining. what are some good methods of brainstorming game ideas?

by the way sorry about bad punctuation, im posting from a mobile device.

There are pretty much two methods - either look at existing games similar to what you want to make, or look at something unrelated and surprising (visual things are often popular, such as tarot cards for their art).

I want to help design a "sandpark" MMO. Optional interactive story with quests and deeply characterized NPCs, plus sandbox elements like player-craftable housing and lots of other crafting. If you are starting a design of this type, please PM me. I also love pet-breeding games.

If you have not made a game before you should make a simple xml button-based game first. Make a soduku or something. The step into sprites and such might seem small but it's better to start even smaller ;).

Brainstorming might take time. Just keep gathering your ideas (napkins, envelopes and recipes with doodles and scribbles) somewhere and don't be to critical during the first week or so. Playing around with lego or pinecones can help too!
