Ship boarding during ww2? (arcade game)

Hi
Im doing an 2D adventure/strategy naval game in a ww2 setting (single player, early fifties, "total war/world peace breakdown" scenario).
I wanted to ask about ship boarding. My plan is to have ships (you control PT boats, gunboats, cargo ships and larger warships such as destroyers) soften up the defences with guns and then approach the enemy, let marines and thugs enter the opponents ship and subdue or kill the opposing crew with small arms.
Only after this can cargo, VIP-prisoners and military intel be stolen.

I know this is by no means historically correct, and in maybe many cases not in reality practically viable/possible. But would it work as a feature in a game? This adds another dimension to the strategy and makes collecting and managing crew members more fun.

And plz dont simply reply, "this is not how it happened in ww2", i know that.

Thanks
Erik
If you have, rather than just a win / lose state in ship fights. The main gameplay (Adventure) aspect could be the "sinking ship" state. Here you could pick up the enemy crew from life boats, collect flotsam, have dialogue with your first mate wether you have enough food supplies / space to feed rescued enemies. You could send out from your ship on fast craft crew with bravery / skill stats to go onto the sinking ship on collection missions, with risk of them going down with the ship.

Also remember at sea, staying afloat is staying alive it should not just be about win / loss in fights
