girls can be very distracting for some people. They stop studying, sociallizing or doing anything productive. Their life turns into couch dvd watching, shagging, smoking and part time work. I've seen really smart guys doing really well - then they get a really hot girlfriend and its like they've just discovered World of Warcraft. Some of my friends have a term for it "caught the gay", i guess its meant to be ironic and i can't remember where it came from but it gets the point across for us.

also, IT geeks, even the ones who dont study outside of class (or have any IT ability beyond gaming), are often just inward people. (forgive my generalization) If they don't see the advantage of hanging out with you for their mutual gain they won't. They will grow out of this when they start to loose friends and alienate people.

Right but as I've stated before, not all of them have girlfriends yet still act this way.
I'm that imaginary number in the parabola of life.

So they're probably even more preoccupied with girls..
most of the people I know was smarter when they had 17.

Don't ditch them, but don't make an effort. I know I know. It comes to this "but if I'm not going to try, who is?" syndrome but really - they don't seem that interested! If they really want you to hang around they'll come around and say so eventually. Other options include telling them what you think of the situation. If they're not listening then they are probably not worth having; no matter how long you've been friends. Btw, getting stuck on being friends a long time and not wanting to break it up is a quite common misconception - just because you've known each other for years and been through some shit does not a good friend make.

Relax. Kick up some cool projects and get if off your mind. You seem pretty good at socializing, and a nice guy, so finding new friends shouldn't be a problem in the long run and, until then, get busy on that big project or whatever and hell who knows? Maybe you'll be getting rich! ^^'

[Rant] Also, I absolutely HATE people who says 'yes' to a project and get all excited only to take it off their mind the next day and do f***ing nothing for weeks and then come around and say: "Hey! How's the project coming along?". Sincerely f**ck off. Wanna procrastinate? Fine. But don't pretend you're a working busy bee or any such shit - if you were, you might have, you know, done something? Loser mentality written all over it. [/Rant over]

Emm, Kanon, Eralp, Sirirsian, I'm pretty sure I have the answer for you...

GIRLS.

heh you sound like my coworkers. One is married at 24 and the others have girlfriends. Also that's not a solution to the problem. If anything it causes time commitments.

Something I noticed though reading this thread. It's been 4 years since I've had a best friend. Kind of odd not having one for so long.

Oh, I'm not suggesting it's the solution to your problem, well not directly. I am suggesting, as you did in the sentence with the rolling eyes smiley, that it is the reason for your problem. And once you understand the reason for your problem then you might understand your friends a bit better and that should help with your problem.

The hell?!? Maybe they're fuckin each other then.

Dude. Doing a hot girl is a whole career in itself. Give those guys a rest fgs! Besides, what kind of young guy in it's own mind would want to hang around with some nerd male friend if the alternative is, you know, wettin' the trout...

Having 32 myself, and after having ran quite a few races I've come to a point where I take girls as I take my aspirins: Only when my head hurts.
