AVG, Avast, and that one that starts with N and reminds me of mission impossible.
edit: nod32.
I second Avast.

I've used avg for a long time now, along with adaware. Though I'm not careless so I'm my own antivirus oh and if you go avg, google "free avg" it's alot easier then going through there site to find the actual free version.

I third AVG. As long as you keep it up to date (very regularly) it does an excellent job of protecting your system.
Microsoft Security Essentials doesn't seem too shabby.

I can't remember, but I think windows defender and MSSE can run with other antivirus software on the machine, more like a supplement to something like AVG. Other anti-virus software won't play nice together usually.
I used AVG until my ma got Kaspersky and I bogarted one of her available licenses for my computer. I have used Avast in the past though also. Never used nod32, but I have heard nothing but good things about it.
One more thing to add: I want this program not to cause big lags, cause previuos antiviruses caused my PC to run slower...

Microsoft Security Essentials is honestly the only thing you'll ever need. It's a surprisingly great product.
Don't expect to find an antivirus program that won't slow your system down though; there's no such thing. Regardless of the solution you choose, you'll have to turn off real time protection if you need performance.
