I do use Microsoft Essentials on some of my virtual machines,

iirc buying it off the kaspersky website was actually pretty affordable. A lot better than I expected it to be anyway. Cheaper than it was at best buy over christmas.

I've got a 2008 server box at my house, so I looked into how much it would cost to get the business version. They were running a special a few months ago where I got 5 license package (the smallest increment they sell the business version in) for $250 for a 3 year license. Between me and my wife's computers, the number of licenses was perfect, so got pretty much whole house protection for 3 years for about 50 bucks each.

Comodo Antivirus+Firewall is free and does a pretty decent job.
I personally use kapersky. It's not free but why muck around with junk.

i prefer to not have any security stuff from a company that has to make money from it. when ever companies have to make money from something, it can get in their way of "not being evil". and the last thing i want is a security company that i can't trust in (symantec and all those come to mind). kapersky does, so far, look quite honest. but in the end, there's only one company having money to put into security, and actually having the interest of keeping your computer safe (no antivir softare wants that per se. they want to make you believe you're not safe, else you don't buy their stuff). and that company is microsoft. that's why i use MSE. for free, and from a company where i can trust they don't want to harm themselfes with it.

Does Microsoft SE work on Windows XP?
Yes.

@daveperman:
I agree, although I rely on anti virus reviews and shootouts before I decide to put money into a new subscription. Of course, finding an anti virus shootout that isn't totally bogus is a feat of it's own.

I'd go for AVG. The lest intrusive, up to date and fast free antivirus I've tried so far. I use it along with Spyware-Terminator.
[size="2"]I like the Walrus best.
I have reinstalled XP due to some problems and I will download Microsoft SE

Deltron Zero and Automator.
