I;m now installing AVG but I will consider trying Micsrosoft SE or Avast, one more question, does I need any other programs to keep my PC secure? I think AVG already have Anti- Spyware and ANti - Virus of course.

Deltron Zero and Automator.

Another vote for Microsoft Security Essentials -- it's free with a validated installation of Windows, integrates flawlessly unlike a few of the other options, causes the least performance impact out of any of the solutions I've tried, and along with the built-in firewall and a bit of common sense should provide more than enough protection for your Windows system.

If I was asked to pick another option my second choice would be AVG.

Microsoft Security Essentials here.

  1. Make sure you're running a modern web-browser that is kept up-to-date -- no Internet Explorer 6!
  2. Make sure you either have automatic update turned on, or regularly install available updates for Windows.
  3. Turn on the Windows Firewall.
  4. Don't download and run random crap from the internet.

Along with a solution such as MS Security Essentials or AVG those guidelines should keep you safe from the vast majority of threats. smile.gif

Is nod32 even free?

In the past I found AVG to be a resource hog and rather intrusive. Maybe it's different now though.

I personally use kapersky. It's not free but why muck around with junk.
I installed AVG but it doesn't allow to open Firefox and says it is Trojan, however I turned of Shield turned Firexof and then brought back shield :D

Same here. If you watch around for sales, usually you can end up getting it for pretty cheap or free after mail-ins.

I do use Microsoft Essentials on some of my virtual machines,

Your firefox was infected with a trojan. So you run it anyway by disabling the virus shield? Great advice! :P

My vote goes to AVG, since I've run it for ages, and the few times that Google, GDNet banner or similar thing directed me to a virus, it's detected and eliminated the thing.

But MS SE looks very promising, and I rather consider installing it for my next system.
