Books for designers
Ho hum - no one wanted to join my supercool team (just me at mo.) to design an educational law game. It''s a pity cos as far as I know there aren''t any educational games aimed at undergraduate students. Yet done right they could sell well.
Anyway I''m going to crack on and try and work up a design on my own. What I was wondering was if there are any good books anyone can recommend about quest design - I see this sort of game as a quest where you have to start with the basic situation and go through various phases until you get to the solution.

A pretty good one is Game archetecture ann Design. You can find it at most bookstores, but it is fairly expensive (50-60$)
Thanks Anon - I''ll see if I can get it. Anyone else know or any articles or books I can get?
I got "Writing for Interactive Media" by Jon Samsel and Darryl Wimberley. It''s ok but perhaps tries to cover too much in too few pages. I would have liked more depth to it. But even so it''s a very useful book and has certainly pointed me in the right direction.
I would like to see another book that goes into detail on quest design. I''ve got "Developer''s Guide to Computer Games" by John Scott Lewinski which is also good and is some help.
I''m beginning to think perhaps I''ve got enough and should get on with it - sigh.

It''s not a book recommendation, but have you checked out any of Earnest Adams articles on Gamasutra? He''s written a lot about cRPG and adventure games, and you might find some of his articles useful.
Good books on design are hard to come by...
